From the larger than life personalities she encountered on frequent trips to her father's native Hungary, to mundane street scenes in small town England, Sarah Jane Szikora has always been fascinated by people.
Sometimes Szikora's work is a response to social issues, such as "the negative relationship that women, in particular, have with their bodies, thanks to the media presenting perfect airbrushed models for us to live up to." Other times it's "the wealth of embarrassing incidents that unite us all. Who hasn't at some time been caught out by a skirt unknowingly tucked in the back of your knickers, or accidentally spraying tap water down the front of your trousers!"
Working with oil on canvas from her home studio, and fueled by "a steady stream of tea and biscuits", Szikora creates 35 - 40 beautiful and whimsical paintings each year.
