GOVINDER
Raised in poverty in Northern England, Govinder Nazran's first drawings were done on cigarette packets torn open and laid flat, brown paper bags, newspapers... anything he could get his hands on.

"It was always there", Govinder says, "the burning desire to be a famous painter, an obsession, a hunger. I was always in the library looking at art books and reading about sculptors and painters. The first thing I did was look to see how long they lived and at what age they sold their first painting and got published. I wanted to know how old they were when they painted their great masterpieces and achieved fame. I'd compare all this with myself and despair."

After training as a graphic artist and working as a very successful greeting card designer and art director in the fashion world, Govinder could finally afford to live and paint on his own terms.

Working primarily without brushes, Govinder uses his fingers to blend semi-solid sticks of oil paint into his canvases. This technique results in the rich textures and distinctive soft edging that is apparent in much of his work.

Govinder's sculptures are another fascinating element of his talent. Working with a variety of materials and tools, he forms the original maquettes from which the limited editions are cast. Each is lovingly hand-painted by artists working under his direction.

Already one of the most popular and widely collected artists in the United Kingdom, Govinder is just recently being discovered and embraced in North America. Animation Connection is proud to offer our clients beautiful signed limited editions by this young and exciting talent.
