Choosing
Family Guy animation art is not as complicated as it for some other shows such as
The Simpsons. The reason is that there are basically only two types of
Family Guy animation art available at this time. That makes the technical side of things very easy and allows you to think about what characters and scenes you like best!
As a Twentieth Century Fox Preferred Gallery and one of the world's leading sellers of
Family Guy drawings and other animation art, we have assisted hundreds of customers in making decisions about their animation art purchases.
The first step is to understand the differences between the types of
Family Guy animation art. The second step is to step back and ask yourself "what do you want to see hanging on your wall?" In this way you will be choosing with your head and your heart, and you can't go wrong!
First, the two main types of
Family Guy animation art:

1.
Original Production Drawings: One of a kind, hand-drawn pieces that were used in animating an episode. Drawn in pencil on animation paper, production drawings are the artistic backbone of
Family Guy. Each character action and pose must be drawn by hand. It's a staggering amount of work!
Family Guy is a digitally colored show. Unlike traditional animation, no cells are painted. Once each frame has been sketched by hand, the paper drawings are scanned into a computer. There the scene is digitally colored and combined (as opposed to traditional animation in which each frame is hand painted on acetate and filmed).
Production drawings are the backbone of
Family Guy. As no cells are painted,
drawings are the only original
Family Guy animation art available.

2. Limited Edition Giclees: A giclee is a very high quality digital print on paper or canvas. The beauty of well made giclees has made them extremely popular choices for art collectors around the world (not just in animation art galleries, but in all genres of art). They are fast replacing traditional lithographs as the preferred means of fine art reproduction as they offer superior quality at reasonable prices.
There are some terrific Family Guy animation art giclees available. The edition sizes are small (500 or fewer worldwide), the color and detail looks great, and some great scenes have been chosen.
Family Guy giclees are very popular with fans and collectors who want color and complete scenes (as the drawings tend to feature one or two characters and are single color sketches). As with all studio authorized animation art, Family Guy giclees come with a Twentieth Century Fox seal on the front and a Fox certificate of authenticity on the back.
Pretty simple... right? You're either getting a one of a kind drawing used in making Family Guy or a limited edition giclee. Both excellent choices, but how do you decide which is right for you?
Here's where you step back from the technical side of things and ask yourself what do you like best about Family Guy? The animation art you buy has got to speak to you as its going to hang on your wall. Is it all about Stewie for you? Does the mere sight of the little terror make you burst out laughing? Are you more of a Peter guy? Something about the lovable oaf strike a chord with you (and make your wife shudder?) Maybe it's the whole gang you want to see every day (in which case a giclee is the way to go as you will very seldom see the whole family in a single drawing).
Some Family Guy animation art collectors only buy original drawings as they really want unique pieces of the show. Others mix in some giclees to get the scenes they will likely never see in an original (such as the hilarious "Peter vs. The Chicken" or "Stewie and the Cowtones").
While we always recommend that you understand what you're spending your hard earned money on, at the end of the day you've got to purchase animation art that you love to look at. Whether a piece is original or a limited edition, it has got to speak to you.
We're always here to answer questions and help, but in the end, you've got to make the choice that's right for you. If you're not sure... get two!
